We opened the shop because of our love of tandem cycling. To us, our shop is more than just a business; it’s a lifestyle.

When we first met, we were both avid cyclists, participating in events like Ride the Rockies held every summer here in Colorado. In fact, our second date was a century ride on our "half-bikes." That very first ride together showed us that even though we both rode bikes regularly we’d never really be able to ride together. Patrick would ride with the "hammerheads" and Lynn would find riders that rode at her pace. We’d start the ride together, and then we’d meet at the end of a long day in the saddle, not having shared the journey at all. (By the way, we hear similar stories from most of our customers. Can YOU identify?)

When we got married, we decided that a tandem bike was the perfect wedding gift and the perfect solution to cycling together. It was a great decision! Riding a tandem truly allows two individuals to cycle together, unlike single bikes. Tandem bicycles also create a strong sense of teamwork, so that when we reach the top of Loveland Pass on our tandem we’re able to share this accomplishment, made sweeter since it’s been a combined effort!

Since buying our first tandem many years ago, not only did we start Tandem Cycle Works, we have also bicycled in places near and far, including many wonderful locations in America, Europe and New Zealand. We often travel with other tandem teams (and customers) who share our love of the sport. Last year marked our tenth anniversary in business and we celebrated by taking 11 tandem teams to Ireland for a two week bike tour of the Emerald Isle. For 2007 we travel to Italy for a tandem tour with 14 teams. To us there’s no such thing as a bad bicycle vacation, rain or shine.

We often hear people tell us that tandem bicycles are "divorce machines." Don’t believe it! Countless numbers of couples have purchased tandems from us who go on to travel the world together with their tandems, uniting them and strengthening their relationships. But don’t believe us. Ask any team that you meet how they feel about tandem cycling and you’ll hear for yourself how enjoyable riding together can be!
