The Speedster Co-Pilot tandem is the bike that Lynn and Patrick, the owners of Tandem Cycle Works, ride. Without question, if we were not shop owners, and we could ride only one tandem, this would be it. On a Speedster Co-Pilot, the world is our oyster. Whether climbing the Stelvio in the Italian Alps, the Crown Range on New Zealand's South Island, or riding Alpe d'Huez at the Tour, the Speedster Co-Pilot has been our trusty steed.
At Tandem Cycle Works, this is our most popular bike, hands down. Many of our customers want to travel the world by tandem and the Speedster Co-Pilot fits the bill as the perfect touring tandem. The dual disc brakes are simply the most impressive brakes that are available on tandems today, and for those wanting to climb (and descend!) passes around the globe, there is simply no choice but to have the Avid mechanical discs, front AND rear.
The NEW Performance Package Option offers you a great buy on the Speedster. Included in the package: Gates Belt Drive, Wound Up Carbon Duo Disc fork and Rolf wheels. Thus you get the most important features of the Supremo, but with FRONT & REAR DISC brakes. At Tandem Cycle Works we consider this is a perfect combination of responsiveness, performance and safety, and makes for the ideal touring tandem.
When you’re riding the Speedster you’ll experience Co-Motion's quantifiably better control that other tandem bicycles simply lack. The advanced design and unmatched construction may make you forget you’re on a tandem at all, which may explain why the handling of Co-Motion tandem bikes is often compared to top-quality single bikes. The Speedster steers nimbly and quickly, but better still; the precision of handling Co-Motion tandems for which they are famous equates to better safety as well. This tandem is remarkably lightweight and fun to take up long climbs, yet rock solid and stable on winding descents.
The Speedster's frame is constructed with exclusive Reynolds air-hardening steel tandem tube package, a Cro-Moly steel unequaled by any steel alloy used by other tandem manufacturers. As on all Co-Motion models, one-piece top and lateral tubes keep the frame straight and strong with no interruptions at the center joints. These zonally-butted tubes, made to their stringent specifications, produce a lighter tandem frameset than any other Cro-Moly tubing. The result is that the Speedster delivers a ride that is crisp and comfortable at the same time.
A roomy stoker compartment, simple sizing system, and numerous stem selections for captain and stoker make a great fitting tandem bike a reality for just about any team. The Speedster's high level of component specifications will leave you completely satisfied that you own one of the best tandem bicycles the world has to offer. And the good news is: you’ll be absolutely right.
